Description

Ilnu Museum of Mashteuiatsh

For 50 years, the Ilnu Museum has been committed to preserving and sharing the precious heritage of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh- the Ilnuatsh of Lac Saint-Jean. Nearly 6,000 years of history unfold here through exhibitions that highlight the artifacts, objects, and works of art of this millennia-old people.
The permanent exhibition “Tshilanu Ilnuatsh / We the Ilnuatsh” offers an original and interactive perspective on Ilnuatsh culture and their way of life throughout the seasons. An outdoor interpretive trail extends the visit into the forest, revealing extensive knowledge about the region’s plant life.
Accompanied by an interpretive guide, the experience includes a visit to a traditional camp, a tasting of herbal tea and bannock, as well as opportunities to meet with Elders. In summer, hands-on craft workshops for children and adults are also part of the program.
