Signature of the round safety report

Laws and rules

As a follow-up to the presentation of the Legal Affairs Branch at the last Provincial Council and in response to several recent questions from carriers, the Federation wishes to make a brief reminder regarding the safety round report, particularly regarding the person designated by the operator to perform this round (we refer you to the booklet of the Federation).

The valid round-trip report (within 24 hours) and the applicable defect list (List 2 - Bus / Minibus or List 3 - Coach) are documents that must be on the vehicle at all times. Please note that for the calculation of this period, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are not counted, provided that the vehicle remains immobilized during these days.

The driver must forward the original of his safety round report to the operator within 20 days of being drafted. The 20-day period is a maximum period, so it is possible to provide that the drivers transmit the originals every week, for example.

The operator must keep a copy of the safety round report for a minimum of 6 months.

For its part, the owner must keep the original safety round report for a minimum period of 6 months and a document attesting to the repair of a defect found during the safety round or trip that follow for at least 12 months. Since proof of repair is normally kept with related round-up reports, the Federation advises owners to keep all documents for a period of at least 12 months.

If you have any questions about this, please contact the Legal Services Branch at (418) 476-8181 ext. 214 or juridique@federationautobus.com

We also invite you to browse the Federation of Bus Operators website in the Member section under the Legal Info / Safety Round tab for more information.
